Commentary: Deflation a bigger danger than inflation
Fears that the flood of cash pouring into the global economy might touch off a destructive round of inflation are unfounded, writes Hans-Werner Sinn, a professor of economics and finance at the University of Munich. Report: U.K. to lose 140,000-plus manufacturing jobs in '09
Data from 800 U.K. companies point to the loss of more than 140,000 manufacturing jobs this year, according to a report from the Engineering Employers Federation. The group projected that manufacturing will drop 8.6% this year, the biggest decline since the 1980s. The Guardian (London) (02 Mar.)
