Car Sales Sink Again: but "Less Worse" except for GM (couldn't get any worse)

Ford's (F) vehicle sales fell 11% in June, while rival Chrysler posted a steeper-than-expected 42% decline.

General Motors Corp. /quotes/comstock/11i!gmgmq (GMGMQ 0.80, -0.29, -26.61%) , for instance, said its monthly light-vehicle tally slipped by 33.4% to 174,785.
While GM's decline came in even worse than analysts had expected, the bankrupt automaker said its June sales were still 10% better than last month's results. By brand, June sales of Chevrolet declined 33.3% to 106,712 vehicles, and Cadillac dropped 40.9% to 8,473 vehicles. Buick fell only 10.7% while GMC declined 36%.

Chrysler, which said the sales rate likely was 9.7 million, recorded a 95% drop in fleet sales, with the auto maker's retail market share up one percentage point to 9%.

Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Corp. (TM) continued to struggle, reporting a 32% drop as the company sold fewer vehicles in the U.S. than Ford for the third-straight month. Toyota reported its sales slid to 131,654 from 193,234 as car sales slumped 36%. Corolla sales declined 53%.
