But if he has the DT's then giving him the Whiskey while we wait to get him a bed at the detox and then into a rehab, where he will be treated for his Alcoholism, he is MORE likely to recover and live a productive alcohol free life. If we don't give him the Whiskey, he WILL die, while waiting.
So goes the arguments against Obama's attempts at fixing the state of our economy. Obama wants to revamp a spiraling of costs healthcare system. If we don't do it now, then we will have no system at all for our elderly population let alone the avalanche of expected baby boomers. No one can argue that the system is broken and in need of fixing.
My suggestion: sign an executive order, and Mr. President, you will need to because once any real plan is put forth, real or imagined, once Congress and it's lobbying buddies get a hold of it, it will be torn to shreads and relegated to the junk heap, where all of the other plans go to die...the order makes each US citizen a federal employee, placing us all in the federal employee system. There are at least five insurance companies that compete for the business and since I am already paying for you and everyone else to get it, why not give it to me too. I will be happy to pay extra each month. Former Senator Bill Bradley had the idea in 2000, when he was running against that other dope GORE, who blew the election anyway.
The other thing Obama wants to do is spend more FEDERAL dollars on our education system. The gov only spends 50B and it is divided among all 50 states. How about making sure each child won't be left behind and that we have no excuse for kids not being able to read or write. Why have we been letting America lose its place in the world since Reagan to China or Japan.
Why haven't we cut the apron on our demand for foreign oil? Because we don't drill? Maybe, but lots of geologists say we don't have enough reserves to fill our gaping gluttonous hole of demand with our giant and more giant trucks and SUV's etc. Why not get nuclear power going. Congress can create a federal law that keeps green peacers quiet by using eminent domain. And put a windmill in everyones driveway. I'll take one.
But what will we do with all of the newly unemployed that will be effected by any destruction of one industry over another? We will survive by retraining and rising up as we as Americans have always done. Lets stop making financial products that blow up in our face (just check out all the reports of late from school districts having been sold some of this garbage) and start making products again that will survive a lifetime, that we can proudly label, MADE IN AMERICA by AMERICANS and give the President the Whiskey he needs to turn our country around instead of complaining about how much it will cost. It will cost no matter what, the question is, if you had spent just $14B on shoring up the levees for their future, you would not have spent over $250B fixing them after Hurricane Katrina, ijiots, and how has that worked out for you so far?...-Tradebum
